Dew Tour Preview

Author: Jeff Schmuck
Dec 10, 2014

This winter's AFP World Tour is now in full swing, as hot on the heels of last weekend's U.S. Freeskiing Grand Prix at Copper Mountain, Colorado, all eyes are now on nearby Breckenridge as one of the biggest and most prestigious events of the year, the Dew Tour Mountain Championships, officially kicks off tomorrow.

The event, which is the second Platinum-ranked contest of the season, will feature Men's and Women's Slopestyle and Halfpipe competitions, along with a rail jam thrown in for good measure. This massive and well-loved festival (by athletes and fans alike) will surely have major implications on the AFP World Tour Rankings and the second round of athlete selections for next month's X Games, along with setting the tone for the competition season ahead.

The Slopestyle course, which is one of the longest in the history of winter action sports, is on point, beginning with the Nixon 20+ stair set (which consists of a trio of rails), followed by the Mountain Dew stairs (which boats three rails and two boxes with multiple transfer options), two back-to-back and more than respectably-sized jumps, the Toyota rail and wall ride section, all of which is capped off by two king kong-sized booters at the bottom. Be sure to check out renderings of the slopestyle course here and photos of it here, and then have a look at the GoPro & AFP Dew Tour Slopestyle Course Preview featuring Elias Ambuhl below.

Likewise, the Halfpipe (aka Superpipe) is as super as ever, with immaculate 22-foot walls and 500+ feet of length, which will undoubtedly allow the best pipe skiers in the world to pick up where they left off and then some following last weekend's U.S. Freeskiing Grand Prix at Copper. Watch as Kyle Smaine and Lyman Currier take you through the super duper stunt ditch in the GoPro & AFP Dew Tour Halfpipe Course Preview...

Here's the full list of freeski athletes who will be competing this week, followed by the Event, TV and Live Stream schedule (which will be available at dewtour.com) on the ski side of things...
